This is a stated First Printing and first American Edition with a "1" in the full number line on the copyright page. As a rare FIRST STATE copy, the list of "Books By J.R.R. Tolkien" on the second page includes the “Father Giles of Ham" misprint that was corrected in later published editions of The Silmarillion. Map in rear of book is attached and in excellent condition. Green hardcover has gilt designs, silver writing, and is free of marks and/or stains. Pages are clean and bright without tears or writing. Dust jacket has minor edgewear and a small tear on the bottom left corner of the back cover, as shown in the pictures.
